The I-4 Ultimate makeover is a public private partnership (P3) project with a contract term of 40 years. It involves the reconstruction of 15 major interchanges; reconstruction of over 140 bridges; four variable priced toll Express Lanes in the median; and the rebuilding of general use lanes along the entire 21 mile corridor.
This 21 mile improvement project is important for Central Florida. The corridor makeover extends from west of Kirkman Road in Orange County to east of State Road 434 in Seminole County, transforming the region to better connect our communities, boost our economy and improve every commuter’s quality of life.
ACA, headquartered off of Maitland Blvd and I-4, has a long history of mapping this corridor leading up to the start of this project. Over the last 7 years, ACA photogrammetrically mapped all 21 miles providing a preliminary design database to enable the procurement of the current P3 contractor.
In the year leading up to the start of construction ACA acquired new aerial LiDAR and mobile LiDAR to confirm the latest conditions on ground and supplement the final design.
The I-4 Ultimate, a 7 year construction project, is just the beginning of the capacity expansion of Central Florida. ACA is currently mapping 40 miles of I-4 to the northeast towards Daytona Beach and 37 miles to the southwest towards Tampa where additional widening is planned.
