The Exhibit Hall was buzzing with attendees confirming the brilliance of the last speaker, while old friends bumped into each other as they watched the dynamic I-4 Ultimate Improvement Project video presentation at ACA’s exhibit table. Hundreds of Project Engineers (PEs) from around the state attended the FES/FICE 100th Annual Summer Conference and Centennial Celebration at the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL last week. Not only was this an exceptional event, it was an opportunity to get caught up with the latest in engineering practices, get PDH credits, network with old friends and colleagues, as well as sample new tools and technology for engineers. A lot has changed over the past 100 years since the FES/FICE Society began in 1916.
Each professional track offered over 20 exciting presentations ranging from Davin Ruohomaki & Alex Sorondo’s discussion on the Orlando International Airport Expansion South Terminal Complex (STC-P1) Intermodal Transportation Facility (ITF) to David Scott & Patrick Kirby’s SFWMD L-8 Flow Equalization Basin – Design Build Project. However, each attendee that heard the Keynote speech by Story Musgraves, “A Multiple Platform Originally and Creativity that will work in Unexpected and Unknown Futures” walked in the Exhibit Hall feeling renewed and inspired by his self-designed life story.
Student engineers of Valencia State College were also impressed with the Mobile LiDAR point cloud data collected of all Valencia SC campuses in the Central Florida area. Patrick Senne, PSM discussed the technical approach and answered their intriguing questions as they learned real world 3D mapping applications.
We can’t wait to see what engineering will look like in the next 100 years. Happy Birthday FES/FICE!
